"Radio Cooler Splasher"

Ok after stumbeling upon this website... I too had the same experience.
We float in Missouri and I saw someone about 5 years ago with a cheep cooler radio. Right after that trip I went home and built one.

Here is my original design.  (the tweeters are FAKE)

..

..

..

..

..

*Specifications  are a cheepass boombox from walmart taken apart and put in the lid of a cooler. I used a soft cooler in the other side for some "light" beer holding, but during a canoe trip it usually houses dry storage. Powered by 8 C btteries. We made tapes of the radio and played some nice classic rock!

This was not good to put in between 2 canoer's because you can't talk to one another (this equals my girlfriend at that time to be nagging the whole trip) (which also leads to it's 3 year demise)

Sounds like a sweet idea! I can't see pics tho (don't know if that's just me. If it is just ignore me). Try putting the pics on a third party site like photobucket or something like that and putting the direct link of the pic in using the image link (I have a better explaination in another one of my posts with pictures, but since I am on my iPhone and not in the States at the moment this is the best I can do).

I look forward to seeing pics of your cooler!

This year...

1 - Cool Float floating cooler
2 - 12V batteries - Found them at my work
4 - Kicker Marine waterproof 6.5" speakers (with tweets)
1 - iPod Touch
1 - 500wx4 (RMS 100w) Amp
1 - 12v Accessory plug
1 - 12v iPod car charger
1 - iJet RF remote control (waterproof with LED design)
1 - 12v Battery Gauge
1 - 3.5mm to RCA
1  -RCA daisy Chain - (4 channel amp)
1 - Sound activated Cold Cathode - Blue Party Light
Red LED rocker switch - Master Power
Blue LED rocker switch - Party Light
Green LED rocker switch - iPod Charger
black momentary switch - Check the battery life

Ok now the fun begins.

For the last couple weeks or so I have been getting in idea's of what to put into

K YoH's River Cooler 2.0

I've found other models and have taken idea's from them such as tubintunes.
(but, I've put my own spin on things)

I am currently in the process of hooking everything up inside a cardboard box, just to make sure it all works before I start cutting into the cooler. here are Pics of the process.
I have a few video's of me testing the remote. Since it's RF technology, there is no need to point it directly at the unit. 150ft range

I will come in here and update with more pics as they unfold.
ENJOY!! =)

It all started with a drawing on my work wipe board.

.
iJet wireless remote

.
Inside Amp case

.
Shoved it all into a box

.
Cool float arrives!!

.
Inside depth

.
Speakers Arrived!!! wow are they heavy!

.
A visual representation kinda what they are going to look like

.
Upclose of the speakers

.
2.5" of the magnet that sticks out. This will be decreased, because I just got 1" spacers to modify to snug fit the outside of the cooler.

.
Once I got the car charger in i hooked up the charging mechinism. I am having a problem with a back feeding noise while playing music??? anyone know how to fix that? Anyway I will be using 2 batteries now. The charging mechnisim works and I moved the whole unit into a new box for testing.

Please let me know if you still can't see the pics. I am using Photobucket to house them, during my second post... I re-orged them into different folders. (this may be the reason.. or the fact that I used the IMG tag from photobucket)

Let me know Ya'll

ps.) If she floats well on her maiden voyage.. I will most likely install a satelite radio into this unit.
only if I have enough space.

The floating Cooler is much like the one we offer on our site... About how much do you have invested in that?

Here's my price list I've been keeping track of.
Total is $331.68

That is without the price of an iPod Touch, or a deep cycle marine battery

I hooked up the sound activated party lights last night, and they look AWESOME! (beat with the music)
I also cut out the inside of the cooler giving me almost double the space!

The only problem I'm running into now that's keeping me form moving forward, is cutting the spacers.
My rotozip is not good on that hard pastic. It's almost like an epoxy??

I need to cut a curve into these. I'll accept any idea's.

Try a Pencil grinder, I dont know what kind of tool stores you have around but you can get all kinds of steels and stones for them.

Thanks all.
Last night i went and bought a new clamp to add and hit it agian with the rotozip. I managed to get through it, but was difficult.
(plus I had been drinking after golf league... so we'll stop there)

I did purchase a diamond dremel disc. I plan on trying this out tonight with my Ryobi (dremel)

The dremel worked out great. sliced through the spacers like butter.
(WEAR SAFTEY GOGGLES)

I still don't have the curve down, but it should do. I will silicone around it anyway.

Speakers mounted
Switches mounted
party lights mounted.

(*UPDATE*)
The $150 is listed for the Kicker speakers, I did not change the spreadsheet before posting. Sorry

My buddy Nick is applying silicone to the outside of the spacers. He did a real good job.
